Bogblog

Well it's been a great season at Bognor this year. We have had beginners courses and welcomed quite a few new members and sadly a few of our longer standing members have now retired or moved away. Our next beginners course will be held around the end of Feb 2011 so keep an eye on the website or register an interest through www.bognorregisarcheryclub.co.uk

Our 'For Sale' page is proving a great success and is frequently updated so check often if you're looking for a bargain. From October 10th our indoor sessions start but shooting is still available outside if you contact the Field Captain to find out which keyholder is avalable.

Our B Teams did well in the Selby League but we are waiting on one more Albion match before we find out if we are staying in Div One of the Albion League. Bognor have played host to a 3 way friendly match with Chichester and Six Villages; hosted an Albion match with Plumpton: enjoyed the company of some members of the Sussex Archery Team for some shared shooting tips; taken part in many tournaments and championships in Sussex, neighbouring counties and as far afield as Lilleshall where the National Archery Centre is based for National/International competitions.

Master Thomas Hooper has been asked to train with the Archery GB Junior squad with his recurve bow. A momentous achievement indeed, well done Thomas. Master Dan Allen has continued his campaign to hold as many Sussex records for his compound bow as possible. Watch out as he's in his last year as a junior but is already shooting adult rounds and doing very well at it! Our barebow archers are increasing in numbers and breaking county records with some excellent scores.

Overall we have had an amazing year outdoors and are looking forward to the indoor season to see us through the winter. It is more relaxed indoors due to the presence of walls, a roof and occasionally heating instead of gusty winds, sudden downpours and chiily breezes but less about the british summers, LOL!

Next year is the Grand National Archery Society (or Archery GB as it is now) 150th birthday. No doubt there will be many high profile archery events and for those who want to try archery, 'Have-a-go' sessions are run at various locations throughout the area. For those thinking beyond 2011 there are the London 2012 Olympics. I have my calendar sorted ready to try for a ticket to Lord's for the archery events but they are drawn randomly so it's anyones guess who'll go! So if you are an archery addict don't forget to keep those muscles active during the winter season. Get a stretchy band to work those muscles regularly to make sure you're in tip top condition ready for the first Spring shoots in 2011. If you're thinking about starting archery don't wait a moment longer. Register an interest on our website for a place on our next beginners course. Archery is not about strength, it's about technique and we can teach you all you need to know to get started and provide equipment to keep you going well into the season. So on behalf of all at Bognor Regis Archery Club I'd like to wish all Toxophilists Happy Winter Shooting!

Next shoot at Bognor

Sunday 15th Aug - St George/Albion/Windsor (9doz) rounds and for those shooting traditional bows the Newhaven Longbow/Barebow tournament. These longer rounds are good practice for those who are aspiring to shoot at tournaments. Don't forget to make sure trophies are engraved and cleaned then returned to the Club Secretary before the Club Champs.
